My posts have been pretty sparse, I’ve had a couple of injuries that have slowed my progress. One of them was a knee issue that caused me to miss both of my obstacle courses. That said I got back on the 5k plan this weekend with the Crossroads 5k Classic. This was an awesome trail […]

Good grief. Who wants to get up and work out?
We all have those days. You know the ones I’m talking about. You get up, swing your feet off the bed and just sit there. You start to wonder, “Why am I doing this?” I know it happens to me. Some mornings, I sit there for a good 10 minutes wondering if I really want […]
Exercise isn’t a miracle worker, but he knows some pretty good card tricks.
Whenever you ask somebody about the best way to lose weight, they always suggest more exercise. I get it. Our bodies were designed to do things. We are animals with a metabolism tailored to actually do work. I’m going to throw this secret out there and duck so I don’t get hit by flying rocks. Exercise is not […]
The dirty secret: Being fat is hard and being skinny isn’t so easy.
I was listening to a recent episode of “This American Life” and it really hit home. I’ve been fat forever. Not because I want to be fat and not because it is easy. Being fat isn’t easy. You get looked at, you get laughed at. You constantly feel like you are a failure. You feel […]
Big Milestone – 75 pounds down, 25 more to go.
I hit a big milestone this weekend. I’m down 75 pounds. When I started at the end of last July, my goal was to drop 100 pounds. I didn’t set a timeline, but I was hoping to lose at least 1-2 pounds a week. I wanted to make it a realistic pace. I didn’t want to […]
Uhh Ohh! Stress fracture means a month off
Looks like I’m taking a month off from my running. The doctor said he can’t see a fracture, but the symptoms and descriptions are very similar. He wants me to take a month off from impact exercises so I don’t get a full fledge fracture. I guess I’ll be hitting the elliptical and exercise bike […]
Making a change. Can I make it last?
I’ve decided to start a blog. I’m not sure why, but I think I’m doing it to give myself some accountability. Over the last year, I’ve worked hard and I’ve prayed hard. I’m really trying to make a change, a permanent change. My entire life I’ve been overweight. I was well over 200 pounds in high […]
Set ’em up and knock ’em down.
If you ask me, the only way to get something done is to set goals and strive for them. Goals keep you moving by giving you something to strive towards. Goals break seemingly insurmountable tasks into small little steps that can be accomplished one step at a time. Goals encourage us by demonstrating progress even […]
5k #4. Only 2 more till the 10k training starts.
This was my forth 5k. My goal was under 35:00 and I did it in 33:03! For the next one I’m going to shoot for under 30:00. I don’t think I could have made it if my girls weren’t waiting for me at the finish line. They kept me motivated the whole time.
Third 5k. 1/2 way there.
The 5k times are posted. 36:39! I know that might seem slow to some, but that’s almost a full minute faster than my goal of 37:30. To top it off, I finished in the top 1/2 of the field. Onwards and upwards. My next one is not scheduled till May. I’m hoping to cut at […]
